The Science Museum has come up with the perfect family friendly summer holiday solution for kids who envisage endless weeks of house-bound gadget overload and parents who desperately want to swap consoles for culture… Power UP. This hands-on and fully interactive two week gaming event – running right from the heart of the Science Museum from 22 July to 7 August features the very best video games, computers and consoles from the past 40 years.

Running in partnership with leading gaming specialists European Gaming League (EGL), gamer girls and boys are in for a museum experience like no other. With over 160 systems and hundreds of games that are all fully operable and available to play on – from Pong and Pacman to Lego and Halo – there is something to suit beginners and experts, competitive parents, multiplayers, retro fans and everybody else in between.

The very latest Next Gen consoles such as PS4 and Xbox One will be on hand alongside classic PC titles Mario Brothers and Sonic the Hedgehog and a host of Disney and Batman games. So parents and kids alike can each show off their skills to the other!

Split into multiple zones, featuring the most loved and popular games linked by theme, content and brand – from Atari and SEGA to PlayStation and Nintendo, Power UP offers players of all ages the perfect opportunity to experience science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) at its liveliest – up-close and hands-on.

Early programmable computers and classic 80s educational games will also be playable alongside the most current and contemporary of games – highlighting just how far and fast gaming culture has developed over the past 40 years.

Tickets are on sale NOW for the four times daily 90 minute sessions which kick off at 11am on 22 July. Day passes and family tickets are available and advance booking is advisable. Some tickets will be available to purchase at the museum on the day, subject to availability. Adult Only sessions for ages 18+ are also running in the evenings on 29 July, 30 July and 5 August and Power UP will run as part of the Science Museum’s July Lates on Wednesday 27 July.

Alistair Otto, Science Museum Group Commercial Experiences Manager comments: “We really do feel this is THE ideal summer holiday solution both for kids who want to stay in and spend time online transfixed to their consoles and computers, and adults desperately keen to get them out to see the great, many museums London has to offer. Once here, not only do visitors get a unique opportunity to experience all of the very best games from the past 40 years – games that their parents grew up with – but they get to see that museums can be cool and exciting places offering experiences that can be relevant, fun, interactive and interesting.”

Power UP runs from Friday 22 July to Sunday 7 August at the Science Museum, London. It is recommended for ages 5+. Additional family friendly activities for all ages are running at the museum throughout the school holidays. Full details available via sciencemuseum.org.uk/powerup.
