This is another superb year for fans of Retro Gaming, with PLAY Expo Blackpool, PLAY Expo Glasgow and PLAY Expo (Manchester) all seeing a return!
For those of you unfamiliar with Play events, they are a whole weekend of gaming, similar in many ways to a comic con, but with hundreds of arcade games, pinball tables, retro gaming tournaments and stalls. Play events also host talks with programmers and developers, along with guest appearances from celebrities.
Previous guest talks have been with The Oliver Twins, (The Codemasters guys who created Dizzy,) Jeff Minter (Llamasoft owner and creator of bizarre games,) David Rowe (The artist behind Knightmare TV Show,) and Warren Davis, creator of Q*Bert.
For people like me, the main reason for visiting Play events is for the retro gaming. Imagine going somewhere that had hundreds of arcade machines, spanning decades, all on Free Play… Heaven!
PLAY events will help you relive memories like these at with a selection of classic arcade and pinball machines for you to play on with every one set to free play. Finally, no pockets weighted down with ten pence pieces! Amongst the titles on show will be some of the must-have classics like Pac Man, Donkey Kong and Space Invaders as well as the more modern favourites like Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat and Daytona USA.
PLAY Expo Blackpool runs from 30th April – 1st May, at Norcalympia Blackpool
PLAY Expo Glasgow runs from 11th to 12th June, at Braehead Arena.
Details for PLAY Expo Manchester will be released later in the year.
