It was the story of d’Artagnun and the three Musketeers originally written by Alexander Dumas, but with a slight twist. It’s been put into a format so little brats would sit down and watch it. It’s a cartoon and all the characters are animals (most of them dogs), hence DOGtanian and the Three MuskeHOUNDS. Good grief!
The story follows Dogtanian, a young boy (sorry puppy) who travels from the country to Paris in the 17th century in order to become one of the kings Musketeers (sorry, Muskehounds). Actually, while we’re on the subject of that, one thing that I noticed even when I was watching it those many years ago is that even though in the title they are called the “Muskehounds”, in the script of the cartoon itself they are referred to as the “Musketeers”.
Anyway, I enjoyed watching it back then, and I managed to find a video with episodes 2 and 3 on it. I’ve got to say that I still do enjoy it. It’s just a shame that I couldn’t have all the tapes again in order to watch the whole series. Oh well, that’s life as they say.
The sad thing is that to this day I can still sing the theme tune word by word. How sad is that, someone please pass me a gun now.
