80s Memories

The eighties were a splendid era. In what other decade you could a person be a young rich sad muppet with no friends, and call themselves a Yuppie? Those were the days when the chances were that you, or your parents owned a TV that did not have a remote control (well, mine did anyway). You could walk into a video rental shop and have a choice of either Betamax or VHS formats. Philips and Sony combined power to bring you the CD player, and you wondered why the damn disks couldn’t be played on your turntable. And who could forget the first time you tried to break-dance and almost broke your neck. The 80s were certainly a time to remember.

As far as entertainment goes, it looks like we’re at the dawn of a new 80s decade. The old kids TV shows that we remember are being re-released, and there are more and more films about the decade are being released (admittedly I can only think of two, but you get my drift). It looks like people are fed up of living in the present and desperately want the past back. And who could blame them. The 80s ruled!

Despite shows being re-released on video, it’s not possible to truly have the 80s back. There are just some things that you had to be there to truly appreciate. No matter how hard we try to bring them back, they’re just not the same as the first time round. Personally, I spent hours with a Rubik Cube. Give it to me today and I’d be bored with it within 5 minutes.

Anyway, here are some of my memories of the 80s. My memory isn’t quite like what it used to be as you can probably tell from the lack of pages. Don’t get me wrong, I have plenty of memories, I just can’t remember any of them, but that’s nothing that a quick pint down the pub with a bunch of other “I wanna live in the past” friends can’t fix. If there’s something you remember, please drop me an email and jog my memory.
