Fingerbobs

Yoffy lifts a finger… and a surreal episode is born. This was the thing about the seventies. People had just got over being permanently high in the sixties and discovered reality, so decided to bring back surrealism through television.

Take one person who is severely removed from reality, give him a pair of scissors and show him his fingers. That’s how fingerbobs was born. Each episodes involved Yoffy (aka Rick Jones of Playschool fame) asking paper-made animals which he shoved his finger up the bum of, to collect objects for a story he was to tell. That was basically it, but as a kid it was very entertaining. It’s only now that you look back on it and realise just how strange he and his program was. The funny thing is that it’s still damn entertaining.

The main characters were Scampi a Scampi (like duh), Flash a tortoise, Gulliver the seagull, and let’s not forget Fingermouse who was to see his own spin-off in the mid eighties.

There’s not much to say about this program other than it involved a bearded person who had bits of cardboard at the end of his fingers who went around collecting things that eventually became part of a story that he was to tell later. Although it sounds very plain and boring, it’s not. To this day it’s still entertaining.
